Opportunity
Working in conjunction with the Community Foundation of Greenville and the City of Greenville we participated in the creation of a world class urban park facility on the upper edge of Falls Park in the West End in downtown Greenville. The new park expansion honors Pedrick Lowery and the Carolina Foothills Garden Club for their dedication to fostering the vision for Falls Park since the 1980s.
Solution
The 3 acre project included the creation of an urban park with numerous raised pre-cast planter beds in the shape of sunflowers, a new pedestrian bridge over Vardry Creek, scenic overlooks, two creek restoration designs, and rehabilitation and expansion of nature trails and historic stone steps. The project was advanced from an initial concept prepared by Julie Moir Messervy Design Studio and required numerous months of early planning to translate graphic concepts into functional and constructible elements.
The project was awarded the South Carolina Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects highest honor, the President’s Award of Excellence in November 2015.
